- Consolidation (Novell buys SuSE, and partnering (Informatica/IBM, and JBoss with Iona, which is more or less giving up on its own J2EE product), continues
- Sun sorts out some of the problems with J2EE licensing, allowing JBoss and Apache to sign up for J2EE certification
- BEA results are up 8% (but on more or less flat license revenue) - and Versant bounces up 22%
- Funding is still out there (even if only for follow-ons); Chutney Technologies raised $4.5 million
